The Low Tide Lull
The tide is out at its lowest point, leaving the tide-pools exposed and the supply boat visible in the distance.
The warm rain continues in a steady drizzle, drumming against the cottage roof as the island cools. The tide is receding rapidly, exposing slick rocks and the beginning of tide pools along the shore. Jenny sits on the porch, nursing her ankle while Kevin performs a final check on the Yanmar engine components before the supply boat arrives.

Kevin — turn back toward the cottage, pull the shortwave and spare battery from the shelf, shove the battery in my coat pocket, carry the radio under my arm against the rain
