Tide Turning
Kevin and Jenny meet at the cottage as the afternoon sun begins to dip.
Kevin checked the shortwave aerial at low water and re-tensioned the guy lines. Jenny dug the north slope drainage trench another meter before the rising tide forced her back, then turned to the shattered radio aerial and fitted the spare ceramic insulator and new coax cable.
You kick your wet boots off the porch, feeling the ache in your shoulders. The supply boat is still only two days away.
Kevin — walk up to the cottage porch and sit on the step, boots off, watching the water line climb the aerial mast

You wipe the mud from your hands onto your trousers. The salt tide is finally starting to recede.
Come on, just one more meter.
Squat down and dig the mattock into the hard-packed edge of the trench.

Almost done with this bloody trench.
Strike the mattock handle with the claw to pry up the stubborn sod blocking the drainage channel.
