The Rain Breaks Through
The first heavy drops hit the corrugated roof with a sharp crack, followed quickly by the steady roar of a wet season downpour.
The steady rain continues through the night, filling the water tank to its capacity. Jenny rests inside the cottage with her ankle treated by a sea beet and honey poultice, while Kevin monitors the rising water levels. The humidity makes any outdoor wood work impossible.

On it.
step out onto the porch into the rain, following the copper spillway hose from the tank overflow down to where it discharges onto the grass slope, checking for blockage or backup

Watch your step, the boards are slick as glass.
Reach for my sketchbook and start drawing the way the rain is blurring the stone walls.
