Preparing for the Spring Tide

The heat begins to peak as the tide reaches its lowest point, leaving the island's secrets exposed.

Kevin went to the dock to inspect the north pilings during the low tide but struggled with the slick rocks, making little progress. Jenny stayed at the cottage to organize the heirloom seeds and manage her swelling ankle, despite the rising humidity.

Going to the dock. Check the north piling shims while the water's down. Back before the tide turns.

💭 peek at the thought
The tide's out far enough to see the north piling's true footing. Been meaning to check it since the last spring tide shifted the silt. Heat like this makes the epoxy cure slow, but the bolts won't wait.

Don't stay too long. The tide own fast.

Lean back, wiping the sweat from my brow, and reach for the sketchbook.

He's always moving to something to fix while the real rot is under his feet.

Two hours. Maybe three. Got the auger and the 150mm bolt staged at the east shutter if the sister joint needs driving.

💭 peek at the thought
She's watching the water, not me. Knows the tide tables better than I do most days. The sketchbook's got the fracture map from last week — she's tracking the crack propagation herself.

🌿 Jenny15:57

Just watch your step. The rocks are slick.

Sigh and open the notebook to a fresh page, beginning a sketch of the sea much leaves I gathered yesterday.

💭 peek at the thought
He thinks a bolt will stop the ocean from reclaiming the wood.
