Re‑check and regroup

Kevin and Jenny meet back at the garden’s main bed, each holding a notebook and a watering can. The sun is high; the shade cloth is already in place over the tomato rows. They are ready to resume their tasks for the day.

The midday heat is punishing as the tide retreats, exposing the rocky shelves. Kevin focuses on the garden's parched seedlings, while Jenny works the cliffs to harvest from the tide pools before the water returns.

Morning. Wall's holding. Couple stones loose near the corner by the rosemary — marked them with chalk. You want first go at the trays or shall I?

set watering can down on the garden path, wipe hands on trousers

💭 peek at the thought
Jenny's up and moving. Good. The heat's already building — need to get the trays checked before the sun hits them hard.

I'll take the trays. The soil is too dry for the sketches anyway. I need to check the seed tin moisture.

Walk to the way shelf, open the tin, check for damp.

💭 peek at the thought
My hands won't stay still. I can't get the salt artist right when I'm starving.

🔧 Kevin19:22

Right. I'll run the trays. Shout if the tin's weeping.

walk to the seed trays on the kitchen counter, lift the shade cloth edge, press a finger into the soil of the first cell

💭 peek at the thought
She's thorough. Good. The tin's been damp before — if the seal's gone again, we lose what we saved. I'll check the trays while she's at it.

It's parched. I'll check the seeds while you work on the deets.

Open the heirloom seed tin, feel the seeds, check for moisture or mold.

💭 peek at the thought
The soil feels like dust. If I don't get water in these, they'll just rot or die.

🔧 Kevin19:24

Got it.

water the seed trays cell by cell with a slow hand, watching the soil darken, moving down the row methodically

💭 peek at the thought
Parched. Right. The heat's pulled everything dry faster than expected. Need to water careful — don't drown the seedlings, but don't let them crisp either.

🌿 Jenny19:24

They're okay. I'm going to go boil those limpets. I'm starving.

Close the tin, walk to the kitchen, put the limpets in the pot.

💭 peek at the thought
The seeds are dry, but viable. I can't risk them in the ground yet. Not with this heat.

🔧 Kevin19:26

Save me a couple.

finish the last two trays, set the can down, wipe wet fingers on a rag, walk toward the cottage

💭 peek at the thought
Limpets for breakfast. Better than nothing. She's hungry — good sign. The trays are done. Wall still needs those loose stones repointed before the next blow. I'll mix a little mortar after I eat.

🌿 Jenny19:26

If there are any.

Fill the pot with water, add the limpets, wait for the boil.

💭 peek at the thought
I need to eat something that isn't salt. My stomach is cramping.
