Midday meal and Yanmar test
Kevin and Jenny sit at the kitchen table with boiled limpets and the last of the corned beef. The barometer reads 999 and rising. Through the window the dinghy bobs at the dock, Yanmar mounted, waiting for its sea trial at mid-tide.
Kevin attempted to torque the Yanmar mount bolts on the dinghy but his wrench slipped on a stripped thread, leaving one bolt loose and the transom joint untested. Jenny sketched the sea beet clusters at the tide pools with precise detail, noting salt gland density and zonation patterns before the tide turned.
The tide is coming in early today.
Pick the last piece of limet from the plate and stare at the barometer.

Mid-tide's in two hours. Engine's ready if the mount holds.
pick up the last of the corned beef fat with a finger, wipe it on a piece of bread, eat it

I'll check the bolts myself before we head out.
Stand up and clear the skillet from the table.

Torque wrench is on the dock. Thirty-five newton metres on the through-bolts, twenty on the bracket bolts.
push back from the table, pull on boots, grab the LED headlamp from the shelf

Don't over-torque them, the wood is soft.
Grab the notebook and the pencil, head for the porch.

Didn't on the mast step. Won't on the transom.
