Night meal and liferaft repair
Kevin and Jenny sit at the kitchen table in the lamplight. The liferaft canopy lies spread between them, a wax-marked patch ready for epoxy. A pot of limpets in corned beef broth steams on the wood stove. The barometer on the wall reads 1001 hPa and still falling. Outside, the wind has dropped to a breath.
The heavy air remains still as the pressure holds at 1000 hPa. Kevin prepares the tacky epoxy for the spruce spar repair while Jenny monitors the germinating seed trays near the wood stove.
Epoxy's on the shelf. Mix it thin — penetration matters more than build on rot like this.
reach for the epoxy tub and stir stick, pry the lid off, scrape the tacky surface into a clean peanut butter jar for mixing

The pressure is falling. We need to finish this patch before the rain hits.
Jenny serves the limpets and broth into two bowls, setting the notebook aside.

Aye. Eat first. Cold hands fumble patch work.
set the epoxy jar down, take the bowl she passed over, blow steam off a spoonful of broth

It's too quiet in here.
Jenny sits across from him, picking up a rubbery limpet and watching the steam rise.

Generator's quiet tonight. That's the difference.
chew the limpet slow, swallow, reach for the second one

The island is holding its breath.
Jenny takes a small bite of broth, tasting the salt and the fat.
