Afternoon Work at Dock and Cliffs
Kevin is at the dock finishing the Yanmar sea trial on the dinghy; Jenny is on the north cliffs completing sea beet sketches and checking the water tank sediment.
Kevin checked the rat trap in the pantry and found a fresh carcass, which he cleaned and set aside. Jenny returned from the north cliffs with her notebook of sea beet sketches and set it on the cottage table, looking out toward the dock.
You tie off the dinghy with the reinforced stern line, the new half-inch three-strand rope clean and sound. The Yanmar sits mounted true, no vibration at idle. You wipe a bead of sweat from your jaw and look toward the horizon — two days until the supply boat, and the barometer still falling.
Kevin — walk up to the cottage

You close your notebook, the sea beet morphology complete with salt gland cross-sections. The wind picks up at the cliff edge, carrying salt spray. You descend toward the cottage, the sediment sample wrapped in cloth, already planning the tank flush — but the falling pressure makes you glance west, where the sky darkens imperceptibly.
Jenny — walk back down the trail to the cottage, tucking the notebook under my arm to protect the sketches from the spray.
