Dawn in the Mist
The tide will continue to rise as the morning progresses. The boat is seven days away.
The morning rain has tapered into a persistent drizzle, leaving the air heavy and humid. The tide has risen significantly, now lapping at the lower bolts of the dock and submerging the shim used for the ring reinforcement.
The tide is coming in too fast for the shim. I'll wait until the rain breaks.
Pick up the heavy crowbar and walk to the dock to check the water level.

Take the nail puller too. The old planking's soft — if the shim shifts, you'll need to lever it back before the water covers it.
Walk to the workshop, pull the injector seat blank from the shelf, and set it up on the lathe.

I know. If the wood gives, I'll have to pry it out anyway.
Grab the nail puller from the tool belt and head down to the dock, watching the water lapping at the ring.

Kevin — chuck the blank in the three-jaw, zero the dial, and start facing off the end to clean up the casting skin.

The water's already at the bolts, Kevin.
Press the crowbar against the dock ring to test the stability of the shim.

Don't force it. If the shim's seated, let the water do the work — it'll either settle or show you the play. Come back at slack.
Rough out the injector seat bore, leaving two thou for finish. Oil the tool bit and check the finish on the facing cut.
