Midday work splits
Kevin remains at the dock finishing the dinghy repairs; Jenny walks into the woods toward the interior ridge.
Kevin struggled to move the heavy waterlogged crate across the dock as the tide began to rise. Jenny spent the afternoon scouring the interior ridge for tubers but found only inedible roots and dense brush.
You sit on the dock planking, epoxy smell fading behind you, the crowbar and tools laid out neat. The tide pushes higher, slapping the pilings. You have a few hours before Jenny returns.
Kevin — drag the waterlogged crate and canvas rolls up the dock toward the cottage, then walk to the cottage to check the shortwave radio

Kevin — sit at the radio desk in the cottage, power on the shortwave, and run a channel 16 listen for any coast guard or supply boat traffic

Kevin — log the barometer reading (1036 hPa, rising), check the water tank level, then walk to the garden with the lime and sand to mix mortar for the wall

You move uphill through damp spruce needles, eyes on the thin soil between shale outcrops. The air is cooler here, wind off the cliffs. You're looking for wild yam or anything edible the ridge might yield.
Jenny — stop and kneel by a shale outcrop to examine the soil and root systems.
