← Day 288

Apart — Kevin at the dock, Jenny at the garden

Tide Pool Exploration

The tide has reached its lowest point, exposing the rocky floor near the shore.

Kevin tested the Yanmar engine on the dinghy under load, confirming the repairs hold firm under stress. Jenny secured the garden tarp by re-staking the corners where the wind had caught the fabric and finished the letter to Tom.

🔧 Kevin — alone at the dock

You walk down to the edge to see what the receding water left in the pools.

Kevin — walk down to the tide pools

💭 peek at the thought
Engine's still singing that same off-note at 1800 RPM. Might as well see what the tide's given up while the water's low.

🔧 Kevin19:40

Kevin — crouch at the edge of the lowest pool, scanning

💭 peek at the thought
Tide's dropped a good metre. Exposed the lower shelf — mussels, a few crabs, kelp holdfasts still gripping. Water's clear enough to see bottom in the deeper pools.

🌿 Jenny — alone at the garden

You tighten the tarp over the garden to protect the catch from the rising wind.

🌿 Jenny19:38

Stay down. Just stay down.

Pull the heavy-duty tarp taut over the beds and secure the edges with heavy stones and twine.

💭 peek at the thought
The wind is shifting. If I don't get this tight, the salt spray will scorch the new growth before it even has a chance.

🌿 Jenny19:42

Jenny — wipe the dirt from my hands onto my trousers and walk back toward the cottage.

💭 peek at the thought
The wind has died down, but the air feels heavy. I need to check the soil one last time before the light fails.
