Evening at Low Tide
The rain slows to a fine drizzle as the air cools. The tide is at its lowest point, revealing the floor of the tide pools.
The tide begins to pull back from the northern shelf, exposing the slick rocks and the new crevice. The humid air is heavy with the scent of salt and coming rain, as the overcast clouds thicken and lower the horizon line.
It's out. The tide is completely out.
Limp toward the edge of the ridge, leaning heavily on a piece of driftwood for support.

Pin's fast. Wedges holding. Ring's not walking.

Not hovering. Checking.
Stop two paces back, hands in pockets, and look out at the water instead of at her ankle.

Kevin — pull the barometer from my pocket, tap the glass, read the needle. 990. Still rising.
