Night watch and shortwave test

Night has fallen hard. The generator hums on the porch, drying the last seed trays. Inside, the shortwave radio sits on the table with its cracked insulator taped over. Kevin keys the mic on Tom's frequency. Jenny watches the barometer by lantern light. The wind presses against the cottage walls.

The storm intensifies from the west as the barometer continues to drop sharply. Kevin attempts to test the shortwave radio while Jenny focuses on keeping the damp heirloom seeds dry from the rising humidity.
