The rain breaks
The first drops fall as the tide is now high enough to submerge the lower steps of the dock. The wind picks up, rattling the spruce mast of the dinghy.
Kevin hauls heavy stones from the rock pile and passed them to Jenny at the dock's edge. Jenny knelt in the rising tide, wedging flat stones into the silt beneath the sandbags to divert the flow. The effort slowed the erosion, though the high tide continues to push against the rotting pilings.
Kevin, the tide is coming too fast! We need to sandbag the corner now!
Squat down despite the throbing ankle and grab a heavy stone, bracing it against the pooling water to break the flow.

On it. Grab the sandbags from the shed—I’ll brace the planks.
run to the shed, grab two sandbags, carry them back to the overflow corner, and start stacking them against the pooling water to divert flow away from the foundation.

Use the heavy stones for the base! The water is already cutting through!
Crawl toward the edge of the jetty, pressing weight onto the sandbags in the mud to seal the gap.

Stones first—stack them tight. I’ll pass them down.
wade into the shallow water at the dock’s edge, heave the largest loose stones from the nearby rock pile, and hand them to Jenny to lay as a base under the sandbags, pressing each one into the mud to seal the leak.

Push them deep! The water is already getting under the timber!
Grabs a flat stone and hammers it into the gap, using her body weight to wedge it into the silt.

Keep wedging—I’ll feed you stones. Don’t stop.
haul more heavy stones from the rock pile, wade knee-deep in the rising tide, and pass each one to Jenny so she can drive them deep into the silt beneath the rotting dock planks, using her body and the flat stones to seal the undermining ga
