Morning and Prep

Kevin sets the kettle on the stove as Jenny limps onto the porch, both of them feeling the weight of the salt air and the approaching heat.

The morning air is heavy and still, the flat sky darkening as cloud cover gathers over the island. The tide is fully out, exposing the slick rocks of the pools and the base of the dock. Inside the cottage, the smell of drying sea beet and antiseptic lingers in the air as the heat rises early.
