The First Drops
The tide reaches its high mark as the first heavy drops of rain begin to fall.
Kevin inspected the dinghy's stern line chafe points and seacocks at high tide, finding the lines secure but noting faint engine vibration above half throttle. Jenny limped to the pantry, ate a portion of tinned corned beef, and began debriding her ankle wound with salt water before heading toward the north cliffs to inventory the salt-crusted crate.
Rain's settling in. You stay put. I'll get the tin and check the dinghy.
walk to the porch, pick up seed tin E, carry it inside the cottage, set it on the stove shelf, then walk down to the dock to check the dinghy's seacocks

Just make sure the lines are tight, the tide is high.
Lean back against the cottage wall, wince as the movement shifts, and watch the rain hit the dock.

Lines first, then seacocks. Won't take long.
walk down the dock to the dinghy, inspect the stern line chafe points and bow line tension, then check both seacocks are closed tight

Jenny — look down at the ankle wrap, then slowly stand up and limp toward the door to get to the kitchen.

finish checking the starboard seacock, confirm it's seated, step back onto the dock planking, watch my footing on the wet timber

I'm going in for food.
Limp slowly into the cottage and head for the pantry.
