Day 655 - Morning Prep
The rain continues to drum on the roof, and the water tank is nearing its capacity. The tide is receding, exposing the rocky floor near the dock.
Kevin spent the morning at the dock inspecting the Yanmar engine and checking the mooring rings for wear. Jenny climbed to the north ridge to continue her sea beet study and monitor the barometer. The air remains heavy and still as the wet season persists.
Almost full.
Walk to the back of the cottage to check the overflow valve.

Kevin — crawl out from under the dinghy, wipe hands on trousers, pick up the greenheart shim and a file, sit on the dock planking to start shaping it

Be careful with that wood, the greenheart is stubborn.
Lean against the rain tank and watch the water level rise through the glass.

Coarse file first. Then the fine one. I'll sneak up on it.
clamp the greenheart shim in the bench vise, take up the coarse bastard file, start filing the taper slow and steady, checking the angle by eye every few strokes

Don't take it too thin, we need that shim to hold under the vibration.
way my way from the pocket and start drawing the morphology of the sea beet leaves I found yesterday.
