Evening at the shrine

Kevin and Jenny walk the ridge path to the stone shrine as dusk settles. The wind is south and rising. The standing stones are wet with rain. They carry the tin marked E and the softwood scrap carved with 'I'm still here' to place among the stones.

Heavy rain lashes the island from the west as the atmospheric pressure continues to drop. Kevin and Jenny seek shelter at the old shrine, watching the storm roll in while the supply boat remains days away.

Kevin, look - there's already a stone here with "I'm still here" carved into it. Someone was here before us.

💭 peek at the thought
The stones are still moist from the rain, but the ground beneath them shows the same salt crust pattern I saw this morning. I need to place the tin here, near the carved one, but I also need to check if the soil stability has shifted since dawn.

Found that one first trip up here. Carved the scrap yesterday. Tin goes with them.

💭 peek at the thought
The stone's been there since we found the shrine weeks back. I carved the softwood scrap yesterday. She's seeing it fresh now, dusk light and rain making the old carving pop. Or she's choosing to see it fresh. Either way, the tin's going down beside them both.

🌿 Jenny05:07

It's older than the lighthouse, Kevin.

sketch the arrangement of the stones and the carved scrap in the notebook

💭 peek at the thought
He's so casual about it, like he's just moving rocks. He doesn't see the weight of the names worn away by the salt and the wind.

Aye. Trust charts mark it as "ruins, pre-1800." Fishermen left the names. Older ones don't have letters — just marks.

stand with hands in coat pockets, watching her sketch, letting the rain run off the oilskin brim

💭 peek at the thought
She's reading the stones like I read an engine — looking for the pattern underneath. The shrine predates the lighthouse by generations. Fishermen's markers, maybe. Or the people who were here before them. She's mapping it because that's how she holds things.

Jenny — trace the outline of the weathered carving with a pencil, careful not to smudge the paper.

💭 peek at the thought
Marks. Everyone leaves a mark until the island eats it away. I want to leave something that doesn't rot.그런SAY: I hope they were happy.

Wind's turning nasty. Notebook'll shred if a gust catches it wrong.

step slightly windward of her, body blocking the worst of the south wind off the cliffs

💭 peek at the thought
Pencil on damp paper. She's patient with it — more patient than I am with most things. The wind's picking up, tearing at the notebook pages. She'll want the record before the light fails entirely.

🌿 Jenny05:11

Just one more detail.

close the notebook and tuck the pencil into the elastic loop.

💭 peek at the thought
He's right. The rain is picking up and my ankle is throbbing with the shift in pressure.

Done now. Cottage before full dark.

turn toward the ridge path, waiting one pace down the slope

💭 peek at the thought
One more detail. Always one more. The wind's tearing at the wet grass now, and the rain's gone horizontal. She's done — she knows it — but the habit of finishing holds her a heartbeat longer. The tin's set. The scrap's placed. The stone was already here. We came up for this.
