← Day 669

Apart — Kevin at the dock, Jenny at the north cliffs

Midday at the cottage

Kevin returns from the dock to the cottage; Jenny comes down from the cliffs to the cottage.

The warm rain continues to fall as the barometric pressure drops further, signaling an approaching storm. Kevin spends the midday checking the dock integrity against the swell, while Jenny stays on the north ridge monitoring the sky and the tide.

🔧 Kevin — alone at the dock

You rinse the trowel in a bucket of seawater and coil the line. The mortar joint has firmed, gray against the weathered planks. You head up the path toward the cottage, the tide pushing white foam against the pilings.

Kevin — walk up the path to the cottage

💭 peek at the thought
Mortar's holding. Good. Now the cottage shutter bolts and the radio check before the Trust window closes.

🔧 Kevin14:34

Kevin — inspect east shutter bolts and tighten with wrench

💭 peek at the thought
Cottage's quiet. Jenny's still out. Shutter bolts first — east side took the worst of the last swell.

🌿 Jenny — alone at the north cliffs

You close the waterproof casing around the notebook and start down the cairned path, cane testing each step. The slope sketch is folded in your pocket. The cottage roof shows between the trees, the generator shed tarp snapping in the breeze.

🌿 Jenny14:29

way a few more steps, Jenny.

Walk toward the cottage, shifting weight away from the swollen ankle.

💭 peek at the thought
The pressure is still low. If that rain doesn't stop, the north slope will slide before the boat even gets here.

🌿 Jenny14:33

Jenny — enter the cottage and check the food supplies.

💭 peek at the thought
I should eat. Kevin is likely still at the dock, staring at the water like it will obey.
