NIGHT

The tide continues to pull out, leaving pools of water on the sandbar, visible in the moonlight.

The air is heavy and still at 28°C as the dry season lingers. The tide is out, exposing the barnacle-covered pilings of the northeast corner. Kevin and Jenny stand by the dock, planning the day's structural repairs before the supply boat arrives in four days.

Jenny — stands up slowly, wincing at her ankle, and walks to the edge of the dock to watch the receding water.

💭 peek at the thought
If the tide stays out this far, I might see the erosion patterns on the north bank before the boat arrives.

Red line still below the knee?

Walk to the dock edge, stand two paces behind her, arms folded against the damp chill.

💭 peek at the thought
She's watching the water go out like it's telling her something. Ankle's holding weight but the wince says it's not right. Should be in bed with it elevated.

It's fine enough.

Points toward the exposed sandbar where the water has just retreated.

💭 peek at the thought
He's worried about the swelling while the island is literally washing away.

Low tide's your window. Northeast corner.

Unfold arms, glance at the exposed dock pilings where the northeast joint gapes, then back at her ankle.

💭 peek at the thought
"Fine enough" means she's tracking it same as me. Sandbar exposed means the northeast corner's dry for once. Mortar window.

🌿 Jenny15:57

The dock can wait. The slope won't.

Turns away from the water and starts walking toward the way to grab her notebook.

💭 peek at the thought
It's always the dock with him, never the soil.

Ankle first. Notebook second.

Fall in step beside her, matching the slower pace, one hand ready at her elbow if the ground shifts.

💭 peek at the thought
She's choosing the slope over the dock. Means the ground movement she saw this morning scared her more than the leak. Stubborn as hell but she's not wrong.
