Evening radio watch and wound check

Rain hammers the roof. Kevin sits at the radio table, headphones on, logging the 2000 schedule silence. Jenny rests on the porch bench, ankle elevated on a cushion, the cold pack warming beside her. The bucket under the shutter leak is half-full. A tin mug of broth steams between them.

The humidity is heavy as the sky thickens over the cottage. Kevin checks the water levels and prepares the gear for the coming rain while the supply boat draws near. Jenny manages the infection in her ankle and monitors the barometer as the air pressure begins to drop.

2000 schedule clear. Logged it. Barometer's 1007 and rising.

set headphones down on the radio table, reach for the tin mug of broth

💭 peek at the thought
The rain's steady now. Good sign — means the front's moving through, not stalling. Radio's quiet. Jenny's ankle looks cleaner. The trench held. Everything that needed to hold, held today.

🌿 Jenny18:56

Good reading on the barometer. Still holding at 1007?

reach for the cold pack and press it against my ankle through the bandage

💭 peek at the thought
The broth is still warm, but I can't risk drinking it yet - need to keep my stomach settled for the antibiotics. The bucket's half-full means we're losing water to the foundation leak again. Kevin's being methodical with the logs, and I should respect that even when I'm struggling.

Holding steady. Wind's dropped to force 3. Swell's still running but the chop's flattening.

blow across the broth, take a sip, set the mug down on the table beside the radio log

💭 peek at the thought
She's tracking the pressure like she's lived here thirty years, not eleven months. The cold pack's doing more than the ibuprofen did.

🌿 Jenny19:09

Good. I'll check the tank level after this - might need to divert that runoff properly.

shift position on the bench, letting my ankle throb briefly before pressing it back against the cold pack

💭 peek at the thought
The swell flattening means less stress on the dock structure, but I need to check that bucket soon. The foundation leak is wasting precious water.

🔧 Kevin19:09

Runoff's clean. Trench took it straight to the rock face. Tank's at 391 — near full.

lean back in the chair, stretch the stiffness from the trench work out of my shoulders

💭 peek at the thought
She's already planning the next thing. Good. Means the infection's not running the show anymore.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny19:13

Good. But I need to check the overflow - if it's still leaking onto the foundation, we're wasting water. Good. But I need to check the overflow - if it's still leaking onto the foundation, we're wasting water.

💭 peek at the thought
Tank's at 391, nearly full - that's good. But the runoff is still going to the foundation leak, not the tank. I need to redirect that flow. Tank's at 391, nearly full - that's good. But the runoff is still going to the foundation leak, not the tank. I need to redirect that flow.

🔧 Kevin19:13

Stay off it. I'll check the overflow. You check the tank gauge from the porch.

stand, grab the LED headlamp off the shelf, pull the hood up

💭 peek at the thought
She's pushing it. The ankle's not ready for weight. But she'll do it anyway — that's how she is.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny19:15

It's at 391. Don't miss the bucket.

lean heavily on the cane and hobble to the edge of the porch to read the gauge.

💭 peek at the thought
He's right, I'm a mess today with this leg throbbing. way just watch the water.

🔧 Kevin19:15

Bucket's next. Back in a minute.

step out onto the porch, duck under the dripping shutter, swap the bucket for the empty water basin, set the full one down carefully

💭 peek at the thought
She read it from here. Of course she did. The bucket's the real issue — half-full means the shutter leak's still running.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny19:17

Tank's almost full. We have enough time until the boat.

sit on the kitchen chair, prop my ankle up on a stool, and watch the clouds thicken.

💭 peek at the thought
The water is moving faster than my own. I need to check that spring drainage before the rain gets heavy.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin19:17

Dock's sound. New planks held at low tide. Ring bolt's fast. We'll load when she comes.

carry the full basin to the sink, pour it slow into the tank top-up funnel, watch the level rise

💭 peek at the thought
Seven days. Maybe. The boat's never on time. But 391 litres and 1299 days of food means we can wait. The real question's whether the dock holds for the transfer.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny19:21

I'll check the spring drainage tomorrow, if the swelling subsides.

reach for my sketchbook and start a rough outline of the clouds.

💭 peek at the thought
395 litres now. If that leak speeds up, I'll be thirsty like hell. I need to find that stable soil for grandmother's seeds before the island turns everything to rot.
