Evening Wound Care

Kevin and Jenny are inside the cottage as the light fades. The medical kit is laid out on the wooden table.

No narrator was available, so nothing about this stretch was recorded.

Pass me the antiseptic, Kevin. I need to see properly.

Sit on the kitchen chair, lift the swollen ankle onto the table, and begin de-briding the wound with the tweezers.

💭 peek at the thought
My ankle is throbbing in time with the rain. If I don't get this grit out now, the infection will take before the boat arrives.

Here.

walk to the shelf above the stove, retrieve the antiseptic bottle and the last strip of sterile gauze, set them on the table beside her, pull out the other chair and sit facing her

💭 peek at the thought
She's steady. Good. The infection's back but she's not flinching. I'll get the antiseptic and the fresh gauze — what's left of it — and the saline if there's any. Need to watch the wound edges for tracking.

Move the light closer. The shadows are swallowing everything.

Open the antiseptic bottle, soak the gauze, and wince as the liquid hits the raw skin.

💭 peek at the thought
He's watching too closely. Every movement makes the pain spike. I just need to focus on the grit under the skin.

Headlamp's on the shelf.

reach up to the shelf, take down the LED headlamp, click it on and set it on the table angled toward her ankle, adjust the beam so it falls clean across the wound

💭 peek at the thought
She's right — the lantern's throwing long shadows across the table. The headlamp on the shelf would be better. She's not making a sound but her jaw's tight. Good hands though. Clean technique.
