Evening at the ridge stones
Rain slants west to east across the ridge as they climb the path together, headlamps cutting dim cones. The stone ring sits wet and dark, names carved low on each face. Kevin carries the tin mug, Jenny her notebook. Wind tears at the tarp over the north ridge drainage bed below.
Kevin cleared the gutter screen of oak leaves and confirmed the tank overflow ran clean while the foundation stayed dry. Jenny opened the grandmother's seed tin at the shrine, found the packets dry and viable, added a fresh desiccant packet, and resealed it before heading back toward the cottage.
The rain's getting heavier. We should head back—check the tin before dark.
walk to shrine, open grandmother's seed tin, check for moisture, add to notebook, close tin, reseal with fresh desiccant packet, head toward cottage while noting the tarp on north ridge drainage bed is flapping violently in the wind

Tarp's gone. Let it flap. Tin's sealed — I watched you pack it. We check the gutter screen on the way back, then the tank overflow. If the foundation's taking water again, we'll know before midnight.
walk back toward cottage alongside Jenny, headlamp beam catching the path edges

The screen is probably clogged with leaves anyway.
walk toward the cottage, inspect the enough screen for debris, check the water level in the tank

Screen's oak leaves, mostly. Tank hit four hundred at noon. Overflow's running clean — checked it at lunch. Foundation's dry.
follow her up the porch steps, set the tin mug on the rail, reach for the gutter screen with the hand trowel
