Dinner by the rising tide
The steam from the pot fills the cottage as the limpets soften. Outside, the tide laps higher against the dock pilings, under the punishing afternoon sun.
The heat is a heavy weight over the cottage, the air still and smelling of salt and drying mint. Kevin and Jenny sit at the wooden table, the steam from the boiling limpets providing the only relief from the stifling room. The tide is high, swallowing the lower shelves of the pools and leaving the rocky vertical faces inaccessible for now.
