The heavy air sits still in the kitchen as the first rain taps the tin roof. Jenny monitors the heirloom seed trays on the windowsill while Kevin inspects the rat trap in the pantry.

The air is heavy and still as dawn breaks over the keeper's cottage. The tide is receding rapidly, exposing the slick rocks of the tide pools. Inside, the smell of drying sea beet and salt lingers in the high humidity of the wet season.
