MORNING DAY 436

The rain has slowed to a mist as the tide begins to turn. You meet at the cottage to discuss the day's tasks.

Kevin used the center-drill to work the bronze sleeves for the dinghy transom, maintaining a steady hand despite the warm rain. Jenny cleaned and debrided her ankle at the cottage, managing the throbbing pain while she worked.

Tide's turning. Low water in about an hour. That crate'll be exposed for maybe forty minutes. Want to look at it together after I get the drill set on the transom?

Walk to the dinghy at the dock, check the transom bronze sleeves are still seated true, and set up the center-drill jig.

💭 peek at the thought
The mist is clearing. Good light for the center-drill. Jenny's moving easier on the ankle today — saw her put weight on it at the garden. We need to nail this transom work before the supply boat window. And the radio. Still need to try Tom's frequency.

I'll come, but I need to clean the wound first. It's throbbing.

Sit on the porch steps, retrieve the first aid kit and the doxycycline, and begin to unwrap the ankle to inspect the infection.

💭 peek at the thought
Forty minutes is barely enough time to debride this own, let alone survey a crate in the salt spray.

🔧 Kevin19:26

Take your time. I'll have the jig clamped by the time you're done. Radio's on channel 16 if anything changes.

Walk down to the dock, crouch at the dinghy transom, and clamp the center-drill guide over the bronze sleeves. Check alignment with a square.

💭 peek at the thought
Infection's still there. Heat in the joint. She's tough but this needs watching. I'll get the drill going, keep an eye from the dock.

The ankle's getting bad. I need to take the full dose now. The ankle's getting worse. I need to take the full dose now.

Stand, walk slowly to the cottage, grab the doxycycline from the first aid kit, and take two tablets with water from the tank. Then walk back to the dock, sit on the dinghy gunwale to let my foot swell, and observe Kevin's careful work wit

💭 peek at the thought
The infection's already worse - red streaking up my calf. I should have started the doxycycline yesterday.

🔧 Kevin19:29

Hold the dinghy steady if the wake hits. Drill's sharp — won't need much pressure.

Start the center-drill slow, letting the bit find center in the bronze sleeve. Pull chips every half-inch. Blow clear. Go again.

💭 peek at the thought
Two tablets. That's the loading dose. She's scared — won't say it, but I see it in how she favors the leg. Drill first. Then I check the crate. Then the radio.

🌿 Jenny19:31

Watch the heat. The bronze is harder than it looks after all that salt.

Sit on the gunwale, pull my own from my bag, and sketch the morphology of the sea beet I found near the tide pools.

💭 peek at the thought
If he slips that bit, the whole way is ruined and we're stuck on this rock for good.
