The Falling Pressure

The wind begins to pick up from the north as the barometer drops further, and the first scent of rain arrives.

Kevin and Jenny visit the old shrine as the cloud cover thickens in the dry heat. The atmospheric pressure continues to drop, signaling a change in weather before the supply boat arrives. They prepare for the night while the tide remains out.

Kevin — walk the ridge line back toward the cottage, checking the shrine stones as I pass, then secure the radio shack for the coming weather.

💭 peek at the thought
Pressure's dropping fast now. Wind shifting north means the front's closing. Need to key the mic at 0400 — that's the window before the atmospherics drown everything. But first, the shrine stones. Left the carved spruce scrap yesterday. The 'E' stone. Should check they're still there, still legible. Tom's frequency. 41 years. The rest of what needs saying.

Kevin, don't forget the latches on the seed box!

rub the throbbing in my ankle and sketch the red streaks spreading toward my knee.

💭 peek at the thought
The pressure is dropping too fast; if that storm hits before the boat comes, the seeds will rot in the tin.

Copy that. Seed box is taped. I'm coming down.

Descend the ridge toward the cottage, moving fast over the wet stone.

💭 peek at the thought
Jenny's at the cottage, ankle worsening. Red streaks tracking toward the knee means the antibiotics aren't holding — or the dose isn't enough. She's thinking of the seed box latches. I'm at the shrine on the ridge. The wind's north, pressure dropping. 0400 is the radio window. Tom's frequency. The rest of the message. But she needs me at the cottage. The seed tin's sealed with tape. Latches are secondary. Her leg's primary.

🌿 Jenny13:29

Slow down! The shale is slick.

limp slowly behind him, leaning heavily on a sturdy piece of driftwood.

💭 peek at the thought
He's always rushing. One slip on these stones and he'll be the one needing the antibiotics.
