Midday rain and radio static
Rain begins to fall steadily as Kevin and Jenny return to the cottage for the midday meal.
Kevin walked from the dock to the cottage, ladled stew for two, and turned on the shortwave radio. Jenny ran from the spring to the cottage, closed the door, and set her notebook and damp mint sprigs on the table.
You crest the rise from the dock, the cottage roof dark with coming rain. The wind gusts, cold now, and you pull your collar up. The stew pot should be hot. You quicken your pace.
Kevin — walk up the track to the cottage

Kevin — ladle stew into two bowls, set them on the table with bread and spoons, then check the shortwave for any updated forecast

You emerge from the tree line onto the open ground behind the cottage, first fat drops spattering your notebook. The mint in your pocket is damp. The stove smoke blows sideways. You head for the door.
Jenny — run to the cottage, close the door, and set the notebook on the table.

Jenny — take the damp mint sprigs from my pocket and lay them on a clean paper towel to dry.
