Breakfast and plans
Kevin and Jenny sit at the kitchen table in the keeper's cottage, eating boiled limpets with coffee. The medevac authorization forms lie on the table between them. Outside, the tide continues rising against the dock pilings; the barometer reads 1001 hPa and falling. They discuss the day's work: Kevin's coax replacement at the masthead before humidity climbs, lime-cement mixing for the garden wall base course, and Jenny's seed packet drying and water tank check.
Kevin climbed the mast to replace the coax cable but fumbled the connection at the masthead, leaving the new cable loosely secured. Jenny sketched tide pool succulents at the pools, completing detailed pencil outlines before the rising tide forced her back.
The pressure is falling. We need to get the packets on the stove before it pours, and I'll check the tank levels after I finish these.
Jenny wipes salt from her hands, stands, and gathers the damp seed packets from the newspaper to move them closer to the wood stove.

Packets'll hold. Masthead first — coax won't wait for weather. Then lime-cement with accelerator before the wall drinks it all. You check the tank after.
walk to the porch, uncoil the new half-inch three-strand rope from the high shelf, and carry it to the mast base

fine. just keep an eye on the clouds. Don't let the seeds get too damp in the tin.
Jenny places the tin of seeds on the warmest part of the stove mantle, picks up her notebook, and heads toward the tide pools.

Tin's fine there. Stove's warm, not hot. Back before the rain.
walk to the mast base, coil the new rope over one shoulder, and start climbing the rungs toward the masthead

I'll be at the pools if the wind holds.
Jenny sits on a flat rock, opens her notebook, and begins sketching the waxy surface of a Crassulaceae.

(nothing — too high to shout down, and she didn't ask for anything)
reach the masthead, untie the old coax from the insulator, and begin feeding the new cable through the block
