Crate Recovery
The tide remains low, providing a window to retrieve the waterlogged supplies before the surge returns.
Kevin hauled the waterlogged crate up onto the dock and dragged it clear of the rising tide, then tarped it. He walked to the shrine and confirmed the heavy rusted tin marked 'E' remains there among the standing stones. Jenny stayed on the sand, ankle elevated, and watched the crate come ashore.
Kevin, can you help me secure a drag line to that crate? I need to get it out before the tide turns.
walk to crate and assess its position relative to available rope and anchor points

I'll get the crowbar and a rope. You stay on the dock and pay out — don't go in after it.
walk to the workshop, grab the crowbar and a coil of the new half-inch three-strand rope from the crate supplies, then head down to the dock edge nearest the floating crate

Wait, Kevin - bring me the magnifying glass from the medical kit. And check if there's anything salvageable in that coffee tin while you're at it.
grab magnifying glass and headlamp from cottage, then move to the crate to inspect the contents while waiting for him

Coffee jar's on the porch shelf, already cleaned up. I'll bring the glass and a line. You stay on the dock.
walk back to the cottage, retrieve the magnifying glass from the medical kit and the LED headlamp, then return to the dock with both plus the rope and crowbar

Thanks. Just be careful with the crowbar, the tide is coming in faster than it looks.
sit on the sand, clutching my ankle, and watch the water reach for the crate.

Got it.
lean over the dock edge, use the crowbar to snag a loop of the new rope through the crate's rusted handle or a gap in the slats, then haul it hand-over-hand up onto the dock planks

Easy does it - that front edge is catching on the planks. Pull! Now! Show me the coffee jar and the tin marked 'E'. The coffee's good to go. Now I need to check what's in that 'E' tin before the tide steals it. Kevin, help me get this crate further back from the water's edge. And grab that water test kit - I want to check the spring water quality. Kevin, the tide's coming in quicker than I thought. I need to get that crate under the tarp before the swell catches it. Wait - I see something in that tin. It's not beef, is it? Kevin... these are grandmother's seeds. I've been carrying them all this time, afraid to plant them.
reach down to help steady the crate as it comes up, feeling the salt-crusted wood resist against my fingertips. </think> grab the crate's edge and help haul it onto the dock as Kevin works the crowbar underneath its weight. </think> lean fo

Tin marked E is at the shrine, not in this crate. Coffee's on the porch. Let's get this thing up first.
brace the crowbar under the crate's lip, heave it over the catching edge onto the dock planks, then drag it back toward the cottage with a rope around its midsection, pulling steady against the wet weight

Wait - the tin marked 'E'? Where did it go? Kevin, what's in that tin marked 'E' at the shrine?
follow Kevin's movement toward the cottage, then check the shrine area where the seeds should be. </think>THOUGHT: The shrine tin is at the shrine, not in this crate. But the rusted tin marked 'E'... I need to see what's in that.

The 'E' tin's at the shrine where I left it. Not in this crate. Let's get this under the tarp first — tide's not waiting.
finish dragging the crate up past the high-water mark, throw the spare tarp over it and weight the corners with dock planks, then head toward the shrine to check the 'E' tin
