Midday Return
Kevin enters the cottage heaving the heavy, dripping crate as the sun reaches its peak. Jenny spreads the sorted seeds across the table, waiting to assess the haul.
Kevin recovered the waterlogged crate from the surf and dragged it to the cottage porch despite the rain. He pried the lid off with a crowbar to reveal the contents wrapped in heavy canvas. Jenny inspected the tins for leaks, finding one dented but otherwise no structural damage.
Got it clear of the surf. Tin E's still on the shrine ridge — left it there. This one's different.

Don't bring the mess inside just yet. Let it drip on the stone.
Jenny limps to the doorway, wincing as the weight shifts on her ankle, and watches him pry the wood.

Holding. Lid's nailed, not screwed. Salt's welded the heads.

Jenny — jenny leans heavily against the doorframe, eyes fixed on the gap opening in the crate.

Check the seals on the beef before you move them.
Jenny moves toward the porch, her ankle throbbing with every step, and reaches out to touch the tin.

Three clean. One dented, seal's good. Two more under.
set each verified tin on the porch rail, pull the next two

Put the coffee on the table, away from the rain.
Jenny reaches for the dented tin, her fingers tracing the metal to check for hairline cracks.
