Midday Rain and Rising Tide
Kevin is at the dock struggling with the leak, and Jenny is on the hilltop.
Kevin attempts to patch the northeast corner of the dock, but the warm rain makes the mortar work impossible to set properly. Jenny climbs the hill to inspect the shutters for leaks, finding a loose bolt as the pressure continues to drop.
The tide begins to turn back, forcing you to stop the work before the patch is secure.
Kevin — scrape the wet mortar off the trowel back into the bucket, rinse tools in the tide pool, walk back up the path to the cottage with the bucket and trowel.

Kevin — set the mortar bucket under the porch overhang, wipe hands on thighs, climb the hill path toward the hilltop.

Kevin — continue up the hill path, walking stick rhythm steady, breathing measured.

The wind picks up from the north, making the descent back to the cottage increasingly difficult.
Come on, Jenny. Just one more ridge.
Tuck the seed tin deep into my waterproof jacket and begin the slow, slippery descent down the muddy slope, clutching my ankle for balance.

Kevin?
Step inside the cottage, kick the mud off my boots, and set the seed tin carefully on the kitchen table.

Jenny — walk to the pantry to check for a tin of beans or any leftover rice.
