Midday work at dock and ridge
Kevin is at the dock preparing mortar for the north corner patch; Jenny is on the hilltop beginning her north ridge survey.
The tide has risen faster than predicted, with the swell now lapping the surface of the dock. The sky is thickening with heavy clouds, signaling a shift in the dry season heat.
You stand at the north dock corner where the plank meets the piling, a bucket of quick-set marine epoxy and mortar beside you. The tide is low, exposing the joint. You mix the mortar to a stiff paste, trowel in hand, ready to pack the gap and seal it before the tide turns.
Kevin — pack the mortar into the north dock corner joint, smooth it with the trowel, then brush on the quick-set marine epoxy to seal it

Kevin — walk to the dinghy, climb in, start the Yanmar, bring it up to full throttle and hold it there while watching the prop shaft bearing for vibration or heat

Kevin — shut down the Yanmar, re-torque the prop shaft bearing bolts to 35Nm with the torque wrench, then climb out and secure the dinghy lines

You reach the hilltop and follow the cairn line toward the north ridge, favoring your good leg. The ground is damp from rain. You carry your notebook, pH kit, and trowel, intending to test soil at each cairn and map stable ground for planting.
The soil here... it's holding. For now. Stable ground verified. Hold on, little one. Water's flowing right where I placed those stones.
take soil pH test at first cairn, record reading in notebook mark first location with small cairn, write GPS coordinates in notebook sketch soil profile at second cairn, noting root mat preservation collect soil sample from third cairn, lab
