Day 531
The chapter for this day hasn't been written yet — it's written once the day closes.
Scenes
the dock · dawnThe Calm Before the Surge
Kevin and Jenny stand on the dock as the sky thickens and the air grows heavy with humidity. Jenny sits on a crate, wrapping her ankle while Kevin checks the barometer, noting the pressure drop.
The air is heavy and humid as the cloud cover thickens, signaling an approaching squall. The tide is receding rapidly, exposing the slick rocks of the tide pools while the barometer pressure continues to drop. Kevin and Jenny are focused on securing the dock and treating the cottage rot before the storm sets in.
Barometer's at 986 and dropping. We've got maybe six hours before the wind hits. I'll pull the shutter panel now while there's still light — see how bad the rot is. You want me to grab anything from the cottage before I start?
walk to cottage door, pull shutter panel aside to inspect the leak and rotted wood beneath it
💭 thought
Just get the medical and the extra gauze. I need to stay here and watch the mooring ring.
Wince as I shift my swollen ankle, then open the notebook to the sea beet sketches.
💭 thought
On it. Gauze and the antiseptic cream — you still got some left?
enter cottage, grab medical kit from shelf, check antiseptic tube (nearly empty), take both, step back out into the thickening air, close door softly behind me
💭 thought
Enough for now. Just be quick, the wind is starting to pick.
Rub a pencil over the sketch of the sea beet's leaf margin, focusing on the salt
💭 thought
I've got the gauze and antiseptic, keep your head down. I'll grab the panel next.
pull the medical kit from the cottage shelf, take out the last two sheets of gauze and a tube of antiseptic cream, put them in my pocket, then walk to the docking area, scout the shoring on the mooring ring.
💭 thought
Watch the shims. They look soft.
Grip the edge of the notebook, feeling the throb in my ankle sync with the rising wind.
💭 thought
the dock · morningThe Approaching Squall
The first heavy drops of rain kick up the dust, and the wind picks up from the west.
